MOONBASE :: TRANSPORT

Monorail

Monorail was the first type of track to show up on Moonbase layouts. It's the posh way to get around the Moonbase. Track is usally elevated at 10 or 20 bricks, but sometimes it's higher or dips down to the ground.

Monorail

This is easily the most expensive way to get track on your Moonbase layout, as the few Monorail sets produced came out long ago. Like Racer sets and Track, you can find Monorail sets, track and train parts on Bricklink and eBay.

Monorail

Monorail looks great on a Moonbase layout, especially contrasted with the lower, grittier Moonway and SpaceTrain track.

Possible Monorail Layouts

The basic idea of the monorail layout is to mount a 90 degree curve on a 48x48 baseplate, offset from the edges by four studs. This leaves a 2 stud wide clearance between the track and the corridor. Once two modules are connected by their corridors, an 8 stud long piece of monorail track completes the connection.

Track configurations include:
- 90 degree curve
- straight line (with or without station)
- switch point, curved or parallel out
- double, parallel tracks (for storage track or to create a big station between to switch points)
- zig-zag, required in some cases to connect left hand curves to right hand curves

Note that the ramps require two modules to fit (they're 64 studs long).
