Welcome to Moonbase, the modular Space building system. If you want to jump in and start building, head straight over to the
baseplates and corridors section to start learning the basics.
History
The Moonbase idea was developed in July of 2002 in Washington DC by a group of LEGO Space enthusiasts that wanted to create a modular Space-themed building system.
The goal was to create an easy to follow standard that would allow builders from around the world to build separate "modules" that could be connected seamlessly
in a large Moonbase layout. The idea was an instant hit. Moonbase modules were being created within days and after only 2 months the first massive Moonbase
layout was put together across the country at a LEGO fan convention in Seattle.
Why It Works
The Moonbase concept works so well because it's so flexible. A layout can consist of 1 or 2 modules or contain hundreds. Each module is connected
to another by means of a properly aligned airlock corridor. A few other simple rules must be followed but after that anything is possible. A moonbase
module can be anything a builder can imagine, in any shape or size. They range from serious or high tech to fanciful and hilarious. When additional
features like monorail, moon-roads and giant shipyards are added, a Moonbase really bursts into life.
